Depravity, Humanism, and the Glory of God
Listener Shane asked a handful of questions regarding the glory of God, total depravity of man, and humanism. Ray and Steve saw all three questions as related to a central topic, and so in this episode, they discuss all kinds of thoughts related to these questions.
Is man totally depraved? Did the Fall of man into sin completely remove any trace of the image of God within man? If man is not totally depraved, does that somehow limit the amount of glory that God receives through his creation?
“Unbuckle your seatbelts” and listen in as Ray and Steve discover things they hadn’t even thought of previously while exploring the many rabbit trails that this topic affords!

So do you guys really podcast at midnight? Is it bad that I picked up on the clock ding-dongs. What was this one about… HA! just kidding.

Scott, that’s too funny! I’ve heard the chimes on Ray’s end and wondered if anyone would hear them, count them, and know how late it really is when we record. Yes, we record late at night; you caught us! 😉

My father-in-law made that clock for my wife and we have really enjoyed it (except for the fact that we can’t figure out how to turn the chimes off!). 🙂

Hey guys!
I only started listening to your podcast beginning of the year (I’m still one behind).
Next to ‘the God Journey’ and ‘into the Wild’ I have you on my IPOD when I’m cleaning at a High School here in Melbourne, Australia.
I really enjoyed all of your pods so far, but this one I must say was just awesome! It really fit in with stuff that I was pondering about lately and triggered some more thoughts. It was a bit long, but like you said, the really good stuff came in overtime. I actually listened to it twice to get my head around some of the thoughts. I processed some of it in my blog http://whatifdotdotdotquestionmark.blogspot.com/
Thanx so much for your conversations!
Steve, about your train allegory: I think the problem with it is that it’s not a train that we’re getting on, but a path. With a train, you get on and sit on your butt until you reach the destination. With a path, you get on and you have to make a decision to walk it every day.
Bless you guys.
Thanx for giving me a good time while cleaning!

Hi Ulf,
Great to have you with us..Welcome! I’m glad this topic resonated with you. I really like what you said on your blog:
What if real evangelism is like going on a treasure hunt, seeking that measure of love in someone, and calling it forth with the love that I receive from Father?
I think that’s right on! I love looking at evangelism in this way. Instead of looking at evangelism as an US/THEM excercise, I think evangelism is finding that part of someone’s experience, life, or culture that points them to the reality of their having been made in the image of God and fanning that into flame. As a person begins to see her/his ancient roots in God they find that believing in Jesus is like coming home to their true selves; the person that God created each of us to be. Ulf, feel free to post your thoughts, ideas, etc. as often as you like. We enjoy dialog around here 🙂

Hey guys – I’ve actually been listening for a while now and going back to the earlier episodes.
I read in “Raising Hell” that Augustine’s hand in translating the Greek to Latin (Vulgate) gave him opportunity to cement his views of eternal punishment in hell. So this doesn’t seem so surprising to me.
