Jesus and Mimetic Theory with Michael Hardin Part 1
In this first of a two-part episode, Ray talks with Michael Hardin (executive director of PreachingPeace.org and author of The Jesus-Driven Life) about Mimetic Theory and reading the Bible through the lens of Jesus. Rene Girard, developer of the Mimetic Theory, has said that Michael is “a gifted and effective advocate who is able to make the Mimetic Theory and its application clear and understandable”. In this episode Michael explains the Mimetic Theory and helps us understand it’s significance for believers in Jesus.

Jesus did not use ‘selective texts’. There is a very negative connotation to this phrase. Jesus choose quotes to support the intention of the Scriptures.
The texts quoted by Jesus were the authoritative ‘intentions’ of God Himself. The Bible was ‘co-authored’ (if you like) – God being the ‘Spirit’ which guided the thoughts and minds and attitudes of the writers – almost as if God Himself were writing. We need to EXTRAPOLATE the meaning of the text. Not ‘interpret’ them (watch liberal politicians ‘interpret’ conservative politicians). Our morals are not higher than God’s. The Bible is God’s Word. God is inerrant – the Bible is inerrant (custodians may have made grammatical errors – but the ‘story’/intention is the same). This is the meaning/intention we need to extrapolate not make our own.

Dirk,
Is it possible that you have made of the Bible (KJV) an idol, a Baal rather than the LIVING WORD?
