Compassionate Eschatology with Michael Hardin
Michael Hardin is back! In this episode Michael Hardin talks with Ray about understanding eschatology and the book of Revelation in the light of the God who is love. Is Jesus coming back to kick butt and take names? Michael doesn’t think so, and he shares from the book Compassionate Eschatology why he thinks we shouldn’t either.

Excellent podcast, so I hate to be the fresh doggy turd on the brand new white carpet, but ….
In the letters to the churches, references are made to unknown groups (Jezabels/Balaams/Nicolaitans) whose doctrines Jesus dislikes. We have no record of what these diabolical doctrines were (i.e. Nike wearing Nicolaitans?). What is confusing to me is that Christ’s response seems to be totally ungraceful and more like an OT response (for example Rev 3:5). Jesus, the personification of love (1 Cor 13) and the finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2), blotting out some of His followers names from the book of life – ouch.
Although the book is ascribed to the Apostle John, some have argued that parts of this book may have been written by another John the (illusive?) Presbyter. Or possibly it was written by someone who knew John as it incorporates some John-isms like the image of the Lamb. However, it seems weird to me that the Apostle John would write an apocalyptic work on subjects that he wrote more efficiently and clearly about in John and I John. Or maybe whoever wrote this book was doing a lot of mushrooms and we are just trying to read too much into this book from either side (dispensational or mimetic theory)?
Anyone’s thoughts (help) before my soon-to-be-rapture? Still, the book is an excellent literary work and great source material for death metal lyrics. Also, I haven’t read Compassionate Eschatology yet, and maybe there are some comments on this in the book.
How is that for totally missing the main point of this podcast, but I do mention the word Revelation (Rev) in my question.

Thank you, Michael Hardin and Raborn…I will never listen to Keith Green’s “Sheep and Goats” song the same again 😉 “Judgement is about God speaking the truth to us about ourselves…it’s not punishment.” Another statement that really hit home is when Michael says, “If death for us is nothing more than a transition, then the future is always a friend … and the sooner we get that as Church, the easier it will be to lay down our lives for others – and that will be the salvation of humanity, when Christianity lays down it’s life for the world.”
