Hi Ray, I just want to thank you so much for your podcast/webpage. Your pod-cussions(my own word I think- lol) have helped me more than anything else I’ve listened to over the last few years. Not just the content, but the many rabbit trails they has lead me on. I’ve read many other blogs and books that you’ve recommended here. Richard Beck has become a particular favorite. I’m on a journey from Legalist Fundamentalist Pentecostal Infernalist Pastor, to decent loving human being. Your pocasts have opened up to me so much regarding the Kingdom Of Heaven that was completly off-limits to me inside the Institutional box I was in. Also Pod-cussions like the one you just had with Dave Andrews have renewed my faith in community and what that might look like in my locality here in Geelong West, Australia.Once again thanks bro. and keep the podcasts coming.
Cheers Kris.

Kris… I stole your comment above and shared it on a Facebook thread where I was taking some heat for posting a link to another article. Your comment was refreshing and your journey is exactly what I want to see others travel on. Thanks for posting… Here is a link where I quoted you… if you want I’ll delete it, if you don’t mind… thanks for the encouraging words… I too love what I’ve learned from the Beyond the Box talks… http://www.facebook.com/talktojosh/posts/10151058615751033?notif_t=feed_comment

No problem at all Josh. Like I wrote, I’m on a journey and I’m more than happy if my story can be of assistance to anyone. My journey from being “RIGHT” to being Loving has been a difficult one. Full of pain, uncertainty, fear, and excitement, but ultimatly full of life. A little like childbirth I guess. In fact I have referred to the experience as being born again…again. Being “RIGHT” in all honesty wasn’t that difficult for me. The creeds weren’t hard for me to accept- Jesus is the Son of God.. etc. The tribal god that was preached to us week by week was also very appealing to me. He seemed to be for everything we were for and against everything we were against. It really wasn’t that hard following a god who seemed to be white, western, for war, hated His enemies, imperialistic, was exclusive, anti homosexual etc etc -just like us. Yes occasionally we were “persecuted” for our beliefs but even there it wasn’t that hard to keep being “RIGHT”. Since our god was full of wrath and like us an infernalist, we had the satisfaction of knowing that one day our “persecutors” would all fry forever in the lake of fire. When the love of God awakened me from my “being right” slumber, I found myself taking my first steps on the genuine- “narrow way”. Not a way made narrow through a set of beliefs that define the “in” and “out” crowds; but rather the narrow way of self sacrificial love. I still very much believw that what you believe is important. It’s just that I’ve just chosen to belive the very difficult and counter cultural beatitudes and Sermon on the Mount as my “Statement of Faith” So far it’s seen me go from pastor to pariah, from welcomed to excommunicated virtually overnight. It’s also seen me go from the path of religious hater to disciple of love. A move for which I am eternally grateful to God for.
Cheers Kris
P.s I intend to check out your blog as soon as time permits.

Great podcast – I think that for a lot of people who leave the IC, one of the first questions that comes up is, what now? This podcast with Raborn and Dave Andrews speaks volumes to me.

Totally agree with Jim. A group of us that left the IC a few years back have been in “what next?” paralysis for quite a while. Dave’s thoughts on incarnating community/kingdom have as it were, brought feeling to nerve endings that have been dead for too long. We are already seeing fruit from this enlightening discussion.
Thanks again to Dave and Raborn.
