We were excited to discover yesterday that Beyond the Box is in the running for a Podcast Award in the Religion Inspiration category. (Huge thanks to Big C for promoting us in the nomination stage!)

Some Down Time at BtB

Folks, we’re sorry for the lack of shows lately. The reality is that a lot has changed in life for both of us right about the start of this year, and we both have had a tough time carving out the time to get together and record.

We have every intention of returning to podcasting very soon, but in the meantime appreciate your patience in waiting for us to return. We’re not entirely sure when we’ll return, but if you follow us on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/BtBPodcast), you’ll get updated just as soon as new episodes are released.

In the meantime, keep exploring life beyond the box!

Returning to a Shorter Format

In recent episodes, you may have noticed a trend toward longer episode lengths, the latest episode even topping out at more than 66 minutes!

However, we recognize that many people don’t have a lifestyle that allows them to sit down for an hour or more and listen. So, we have made a decision to return to the shorter format that began our podcast ten months ago and keep our episodes closer to the 30-minute mark.

We hope you enjoy the change, and welcome any comments either for or against the return to shorter episodes.

Recently, we put out a call for promos and bumpers from other podcasters. However, we wanted to extend that invitation to anyone with a microphone and recording software who would like to send us an audio comment to be played on our show.

We would only request that you try to keep your comments to no more than 60 seconds. We might edit them, if necessary, before airing them.

More Technical Difficulties

I’m sure that some of our Christian friends would caution us that God continues to try to block our podcast from happening, but for whatever reason, we have had technical issues again with producing the episode.

The computer that we use to mix/produce appears to have some issues, and we are working to resolve those issues very quickly so we can get our latest episode up. Stay tuned!

BtB Goes Mobile!

No, Ray and Steve are not embarking on a nationwide speaking tour! But thanks to Alex King’s WordPress Mobile plugin, if you access BtB from a mobile phone or handheld device, you will be presented with a streamlined, mostly-text version of the site. You can still download the MP3 episodes on your device (depending on your device’s browser and its capabilities) and listen to them.

Quicker to load, easier to read, yet still having all of the content you want…enjoy reading and listening beyond the (computer) box!

BtB Finds New Home

After being hacked several times over the course of just a few months, we finally were able to make the move to get off of the shared hosting that we were using and get on what we hope will be a much more secure VPS (Virtual Private Server).

We apologize for the recent downtime and confusion as we scrambled to move the content to a new location. Fortunately, the migration seems to have gone well without too much difficulty. Having said that, if you experience any difficulties whatsoever, please send an email to: steve [at] beyondtheboxpodcast [dot] com.

Upgrading in Progress…Please Be Patient

Hey, listeners. Recently, the BtB site was hacked, and as part of our efforts to prevent this from happening again, we have had to upgrade our WordPress version to the newest. This, in turn, required us to change plugins that we were using for podcasting. As a result, there appears to be some strange behavior regarding the playing of podcast episodes on the site. You may or may not get redirected to the MP3 file itself rather than seeing a player on the page.

I (Steve) will continue to work on this problem. However, for the moment, I have to leave it as it is because of other commitments on my time.

Update Dec 13, 2008 – Well, I was having difficulties with the new podcast plugin, and tried going back to the old plugin. It appears to work, despite rumors of difficulties with WordPress 2.7. Go figure! So, for now, all appears to be well. If you have any difficulties with the site, please let me know. Thanks!
